Unique Hoodie DIYs

Today I'm over at The Sewing Rabbit sharing a tutorial and pattern pieces for making your own dinosaur hoodie. I mean...what little boy doesn't want to be a dinosaur? And the great thing about a hoodie like this is that it's not 'too costume-y' so it can be worn anytime, Halloween included!

Speaking of Halloween...if you haven't already gotten the Halloween Treat Bag pattern go get it now! You still have plenty of time to sew a fun treat bag for your little one. And for The Sewing Rabbit readers I've created a coupon code so you can get the pattern for only $5. Use the code RABBIT in my etsy store. But hurry, the coupon will expire soon!

Now...back to hoodies. I used one pattern and created four completely different looking hoodies.
My two-year old got to be a dinosaur. My four year old got an Anthropologie-inspired coat (all the details about that can be found here). My five year old girl got a pink, ruffly hoodie (more details about that tomorrow) and for my six year old son, I made a knight-inspired hoodie.

A KNIGHT! I am in love with his sweatshirt and he is too! It was 80 degrees yesterday and he wore it to school. It made me giggle and feel all warm and fuzzy at the same time because he really loves it and feels special in it.

The idea for this hoodie originally came from an etsy store I stumbled across making knight hoodies. They were SO cool and also very expensive. Now I know why. This hoodie was quite difficult to sew and took me more than two days of work! (The other three hoodies combined only took me a day.)

I originally started out trying to create a pattern and tutorial for YOU to sew one too...but whoa...the details got a little overwhelming and it would have been the world's longest tutorial. If you're really interested in a tutorial (and pattern pieces) for this hoodie please leave me a comment and let me know. If enough are interested I'll be happy to put it together. (UPDATE: I have decided to create a full pattern for the Knight Hoodie and it will be released soon! Be sure to follow me on facebook or the blog so you get the details when it's released.)
I am just in love with the Mohawk-like hood, the elbow 'armor' and extra pieces that make this hoodie unique. From the back you either see the top of the hood, or when the hood is on, you see some little armor details with gold buttons.
Elliott's favorite part is that he can bend his elbows and make the extra arm patches pop out.
The hoodie was made to look like a knight...but with the hood up it sort of looks like a ninja hoodie too. Either way, it's perfect for a boy!
So I've now made a knight and a dinosaur hoodie for my boys...what other ideas can you think of for boys? I'd love to make more unique sweatshirts and hoodies for them this winter. Any suggestions?

  1. I totally love your knight hoodie! Great design details, and I am sure that it took you forever to get that sucker done. My DS loves all things knight, too. Of course, we go to the local renaissance faire once a year. I made hime a knight costume for that, and he got a ton of compliments. I may have to copy your hoodie idea for him. Great job!
